And so…how did I get to this beautiful place…..?

I became a teen’ in 1959.….I loved the magazines then ! Life magazine, Saturday Evening Post, 'True Dectective'!! Photography was so far ahead of TV at the time for graphics and images.....It garnered my interests long before I knew who the icons of photography were: Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Steichen, Paul Strand, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lang and Diane Arbus….naming only a few.

….My adventures in life later involved sailing and water; and don’t sailing and photography just fit naturally? One late June day in 1984, while ‘Hejira’ was berthed in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia harbor an elderly man stopped by ‘Hejira’ and politely asked….”what are you doing here?”, I replied “touring the northwest Atlantic”. He harrumphed and then said, “A man who goes to sea for pleasure would as soon go to Hell for a past-time.” This is a complement or a curse, depending. (from an old sailor’s proverb first known quoted in 1899 by A.J.Boyd Shellback, viii.)

Thus, I was warned…..a life of adventure had already begun which included my seduction by photography and an equal warning to the viewer…..my choice, my rules and I’m a fairly opinionated fellow…..
